  • India Diwali Satellite Image Real or Fake

First of all, HAPPY DIWALI to all who visit this page!

Now to answer your question. Is this beautiful image below really depicting India’s billion+ divos / deevos (oil lamps) lit during the Diwali festival?

I’m afraid not. It is depicting the progressive growth from 1992 to 2003. The Science Photo Gallery site explains it it more detail.

Asato ma sat gamaya 😉 – after all, that’s what this festival is all about right? Continue reading to learn about the significance of all 5 days in this Hindu celebration: (more…)

  • 3 Reasons Why You Should Support Chai-Town A Capella

The title of this post was designed to get you to this very page that you are currently reading (and I guess it worked). Now that you’re here, my next call to action will be to get you to help fund the next album from this wonderful South Asian A Capella group from the University of Illinois – Urbana Champaign. If you don’t want to hear any additional persuasive commentary from me, simply proceed to their recording project page where you can donate. • Are You Human | Manushya Gaurav Din

All the websites that use captcha to ask us this question are apologetic. Are they worried that we’ll be insulted >> (“HOW DARE THEY ASK ME SUCH A QUESTION, I’M SO INSULTED!”)?

The last two Thanksgivings have sucked for me, both were preceded by job loss. Fortunately another thing that sucks at many companies helped me get back on my feet. I knew I wanted to switch gears & get into marketing after the first loss, so I headed straight to the library to check out some marketing books. One book called out from the shelves louder than all of the others: (more…)

  • Death Is Very Likely The Single Best Invention In Life

RIP Steve Jobs – I’ve never owned an Apple product, and I’m always going around sharing that fact. But no one can deny how creative, intelligent, and amazing you were. I love Pixar btw, did I mention that? 🙂

  • Every Indian Host Has A Mission

Every Indian meal that you eat at someone else’s home ends in one of two ways: 1. you’re extremely stuffed wondering why you had to eat that much or 2. you feel guilty because you just covered the extra food left in your plate with a napkin as you tossed it in the trash. If you’re like me and you’ve gotten tired of those two options then you might occasionally experience case #3: the host is (more…)

  • How Social Media Saved My Wedding

I know that sounds like a ridiculous statement (b/c it partially is), but my reception may not have been the same without it. We had decided that our theme was going to be “Chicago” early this year, and started thinking of ways to make that come alive in the banquet hall. I kept saying I wanted to make models of the buildings, but didn’t know how that was going to happen. After many Google searches I found my solution: postcards with models of Chicago buildings. It was some local printing press that had no contact form on the site, no phone number, no shopping cart, just a form to print out and mail to them. I don’t think I have ever placed an order this way, at least not in the past 10 years. It’s 2011!   (more…)
